Jorn C. Olsen lives in Hastings, Nebraska with his wife, Mary. He grew up in Portland, Oregon where his family spent significant time camping, fishing, hunting, and traveling in the western United States and Canada. These experiences instilled a deep appreciation for the outdoors and wildlife.
Jorn attended Oregon State University and received a MBA from Owen Graduate School of Management at Vanderbilt Unversity. He is employed by the Dutton-Lainson Company in Hastings, as Vice-President of Data Processing. He is the father of two children: Christopher, who lives in Austin, Texas, and Erica, who lives in Los Angeles. He is the master of his loyal companion, Nic, a black Labrador dog.
In 1997, Jorn purchased his first digital camera and became enthralled with the possibilites of digital photography. In January 2005, he puchased a wide format color printer and began printing large photographs for friends, who encouraged him to market his work. He began the task of examining and refining eight years of photographs to get to a collection he could market.
Most of the photos in the beginning collection were taken in Nebraska. Many of the striking sunrises and sunsets were taken in the fall and winter months when the air is much less humid and hazy, thus making colors appear more vivid and crisp. The photographs of the Mammatus Clouds, which he took on June 12, 2004 just after a bad storm, have brought him a great deal of notoriety. He now has expanded his collection beyond the borders of Nebraska.
